How to Lubricate Your Treadmill

Follow these four simple steps to keep your motor running cool and your belt gliding smoothly.

Clean the Deck

Before applying lubricant, wipe down the area between the belt and the deck with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris.

Lift the Belt

Reach under the side of the belt. Most SOLE and XTERRA belts can be lifted enough to apply lubricant without loosening bolts.

Apply Lubricant

Apply 20-30ml of 100% silicone lubricant in a 'S' pattern or straight lines along the length of the deck where you walk.

Spread & Walk

Turn the treadmill on at a slow speed (3 km/h) and walk on it for 3-5 minutes to evenly distribute the silicone.

SOLE & XTERRA Maintenance Tips

Specific advice for the brands we carry to ensure maximum longevity.

SOLE Fitness

SOLE treadmills often feature low-maintenance wax decks, but still require silicone lubrication every 3-6 months depending on usage.

XTERRA Fitness

XTERRA models are built for durability; ensure you check belt tension monthly as the entry-level belts can stretch slightly over time.

Why Lubrication Matters

In the UAE, dust is the #1 killer of gym equipment. Without proper lubrication, friction between the belt and deck increases. This forces the motor to draw more current, eventually blowing the motor controller board or burning the motor windings.

Regular maintenance (every 3 months) can extend the life of your treadmill by years and save you thousands in repair costs.

FAQ

Maintenance — Common Questions

What kind of lubricant should I use for my treadmill?
+
Always use 100% silicone treadmill lubricant. Never use WD-40, motor oil, or vegetable oil, as these can destroy the belt's backing and the deck coating.
How do I know if my treadmill belt is slipping?
+
If the belt hesitates or pauses for a split second when your foot strikes the deck, it's likely slipping. This usually means it needs tensioning or is too dry.
How often should I lubricate my treadmill in Dubai?
+
Due to the dust and heat in Dubai, we recommend lubricating every 3 months or every 60 hours of use to prevent motor strain.
